As a wedding photographer in Temecula, rarely do I shoot family portrait sessions (strong emphasis on the word rarely). See I believe the universe responds to what you put out there and I have always thought the idea of taking family photos of people in black shirts and jeans in front of the Redhawk waterfall would literally make me puke. I still think it will by the way. But as a new father I have grown to absolutely love taking photos of my daughter and our family. 99% of these photos are not posed. They just capture us as we are and I think that is a wonderful thing. That was when I started thinking about offering what I would describe as lifestyle family portrait sessions. Essentially, I would go to the home of the family and shoot for about an hour and then do a second hour somewhere outdoors where we had some good light. I loved the idea of going into the families’ home, catching them interact with one another on their own turf. It creates a level of comfortability for both the kids and parents. It allows them to act as they are, which is always one of the hurdles we as photographers have to jump when photographing subjects we have had little interaction with beforehand. I didn’t want to capture photos of people just smiling in front of a nice backdrop. I wanted to create photos that would act as a time capsule. Photos that would remind the family of this chapter in their lives that will soon be over. That was what I wanted to offer. Then of course the universe responded immediately when Ciara contacted me about taking photos of her, Summer, Maddy and Justin. They were 100% on board with my vision and I think this first attempt at a lifestyle family portrait session came out great. THANK YOU Ciara for trusting me to photograph your family in a way that was truly genuine, and allowing me into your families’ home and lives.
